Our latest from scratch experiment all started with a book. Now library day is very exciting at the Walston house. More so when the boys find a book that gets their imaginations going. We've visited with dinosaurs, bears and lions, learned about space and firefighting, have read some of Mommy's childhood favs and the list goes on. Well, about a month ago, Caleb found a silly book called Arnie the Doughnut about a doughnut and what happens to him when he finds out he's made for eating. It's actually a very cute story, and for the last month or so its been all about Arnie. It just so happened that I have a doughnut recipe I had cut from the newspaper. I told Caleb we would make an Arnie. Only caveat, no doughnut pan. I found one on Amazon, but wasn't about to buy it. Not even for Arnie. So when I received a gift card for Amazon...you guessed it, I bought a donut pan for my little bakers. The pan arrived last week and we were off. Now these are obviously baked donuts so they are more cake like. And, of course, the recipe is whole grain!

And because Arnie has icing and sprinkles, ours has to also. The doughnuts turned out great and two little boys couldn't have been more excited. I thought I might find Arnie outside playing with the boys or in their room, but unlike the story, Arnie and his friends didn't last long in our house.

The finished product!
This is so great!!!! What a fun house and what a great memory they will have!
